One of the most popular and effective forms of drug treatment is residential drug treatment. Also known as inpatient treatment or a “therapeutic community”, these programs take place in a residential environment and are based on a model of treatment in which individuals pass through levels or stages as they stay in the program longer and continue to recover. The end of treatment often comes with a “graduation” or some type of recognition by the group of the individual that has finished with the residential drug treatment program. An element that is important in residential drug treatment is group and individual accountability and is often discussed in individual and group therapy sessions.
Rehab Program
The rehab program that takes place in a residential treatment environment is very helpful to many chemically dependent people because the new environment removes them from old patterns, old friends and other harmful behaviors. Residential treatment is effective because it helps create a solid foundation in early sobriety that once formed is more difficult to break down. Individuals who enroll in a rehab program usually are looking for a way out or some type of help. In the beginning, some people who go to residential treatment might have gotten there through an family intervention or the courts, but as time goes on either their attitude will change for the better or they will not be able to continue on the rehab program path.
